Sarah May Scott

I read Sarah's blog because she's a great writer. Her fuck-it-all attitude resonates with me. Her photographs speak to me (I have one hanging in my studio).

We all are on one road or another, trying to decide the right way to go. Sarah became "one of us" as a result of an accident during a bike race. Sarah writes about the road she's on now, with a different kind of body than she started out with.

Being disabled isn't all about what wheelchair you use or how you wish the accident didn't happen or how you wish you weren't born like this. It really is a lot more familiar than you would think. Will I get that job? How much dating sucks. My car won't start and it turns out to be operator error.

Perhaps we have few extra, more unusual things that can make our lives interesting... Wheelchairs that get flats, subway elevators that don't work, bars with only high tables with stools... But we all have our obstacles. And our dreams.

I love reading about Sarah's experiences, because I can relate. It gives me perspective. It helps me to realize where I am on my path. Somedays it feel like I'm heading over the handlebars into a ditch and on other days, it feels like I'm riding on air.

What does your path look like?

Welcome

One has many choices in life. Care or don't care. Breath or don't breath. Get involved or stay at home.

I find myself having to, needing to, do more, say more, act more to promote the cause of inclusivity for my community, those living with disabilities.

I have seen the power, the joy, the wisdom in other's blogs. I hope I can bring some light, some humor and some positive results to the struggle that many of us fight each day. The fight to have the same opportunity to have freedom, joy and the pursuit of happiness.
